BLOOMINGTON (April 20, 2015) An Indiana University football player has been suspended after police arrested him early Sunday on misdemeanor battery charges. Sunday, where they were told someone had assaulted a woman.
The suspect was identified as Ralph Green III, a defensive lineman for the IU football team. According to a police report, Green was trying to dance with the woman when she refused. He slapped the woman’s face during the encounter, police said. The incident sparked a disturbance involving Green, the woman and her boyfriend, police said.
When police tried to talk to Green about the incident, he began “yelling belligerently” and tried to enter the passenger side of a car. He repeatedly honked the horn until police ordered him to stop and step away.
Officers noticed signs of intoxication from the 21 year old,
including slurred speech, red, watery eyes and poor balance. Green tested for a blood alcohol content of 0.20, police said. He was arrested on charges of battery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
IU provided a statement saying Green has been suspended:
University Athletics and the IU football program are aware of the arrest of Indiana University student athlete Ralph Green III. We take this situation very seriously as we do all conduct related issues, on or off the field, among our student athletes.
has been suspended from all football activities effective immediately, and the IU Office of the Dean of Students has been notified of the allegations consistent with Department of Athletics policy. We will continue to gather facts, monitor the legal and university processes,
and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.
